Find Your Dream Horse

Happily Ever After aka RE-HOMED x 50 (+) Prison and Police Horses

We are happy to announce that Texas Prison & Police Horse Rescue has no horses left to be rehomed at the moment. All the horses that have been in our care are either staying here at TPPHR as their forever home (Bubba, Trigger and Deets) or have gone outside our facility to their forever homes, or awaiting transport, or being tried on a trial basis! We are so happy for these former Prison Horses, we feel really good about the homes we have chosen and think they will all get there hereo’s retirement!

Texas Prison and Police Horse Rescue currently have 6 (six) rescued horses that are fully supported by the non-profit and have a forever home here. Their names are Trigger, Paisley, Deets, Freckles, Bubba, and Shadow. You can find these rescued prison and police horses on the Happily Ever After page (top 6 horses on the page).

One of the frequently asked questions the TPPHR gets is "do we trust auctions?" That is a hard question to answer but we can tell you that we do support Elite Auctions, LLC. They are based in Navasota, TX and have a honest program. They give as much information as possible, have a special section in their auction for Prison and Police horses, you can spend time with the horses that interest you and you can bid in person or online. Auction dates are posted on their website and on their Facebook page.

Do you have a prison or police horse that you want to rehome? We are happy to help with that. We have 2 options at the moment:

  1. We have given people permission to post via Facebook in our "Public Group" and in on our "Public Page". Please contact TPPHR via email prior to your post.
  2. We can post a photo, basic info, and contact info on this page. Scroll down. Requirements apply. Contact us for details.

We are not responsible for posts not related to actual TPPHR horses. All questions regarding a prison or police horse for sale (re-home) outside of TPPHR needs to be directed to the seller. THANK YOU!

12-16-25 UPDATE! GRAY HAS A NEW HOME! "Gray" is a registered Quarter Horse

Texas Prison & Police Horse Rescue has 1 horse left to be rehomed. All other horses are either staying here at TPPHR as their forever home or have gone outside our facility to their forever homes, awaiting transport, or being tried on a trial basis! We are so happy for these former Prison Horses, we feel really good about the homes we have chosen and think they will all get there hereo’s retirement!

The horse that is left is Mr. Gray, we have confirmation he cannot ever be ridden! We would like to see him go to maybe a home looking for a companion horse or maybe a sanctuary!

When he sees you, he comes running towards you for your love or treats....equally appreciated. He’s not aggressive, but he does love to eat! We have a window in our shop and he is the first baby to greet us with a "good morning" nicker!

He’s very beautiful, we have his coat looking much better and clear, he gets playful and fun to watch. You can take him and he loves a good grooming. Good for him and relaxation for you!

  • Registered Quarter Horse
  • Age: 17
  • 15 Hands
  • Color gray
  • Vetted December 2025
  • Next farrier visit is January 2nd, 2026. Stands great for this spa day
  • Barefoot aka no shoes
  • Currently on no medications but we suspect pain management in his distant future
  • Has "TMJ" (pain in his jaw joints)
  • T12 and T13 (spine) are fused, edema in elbow joints and low mobility in right shoulder = Can NOT be ridden
  • There is no charge aka "re-homing fee" for Gray. It took a village of donations to save him and our group's goal was to free him from the kill pen pipeline and place him in a "Happily Ever After" home. We will gladly accept a donation of any amount to TPPHR but this is not required. You will need to pay for transport though.

Want to adopt a TPPHR vetted horse?

If you would like to get more information on how to adopt this beautiful baby, please email us at rescue@TPPHR.com.

Serious inquiries will be required to fill out our questionnaire, provide photos of your location, etc. This will be emailed to you upon your email request.

Once approved, your main contact will be Tanya, she will set up a "meet n greet". During this visit you will meet Gray and groom, hand walk, love, pet and give treats. Basically, start the trusting process!

Below are Texas Prison and Police Horses up for adoption OUTSIDE of TPPHR

We are not responsible for information not related to actual TPPHR horses. We are held harmless of all transactions.  All questions regarding a prison or police horse for sale (re-home) outside of TPPHR needs to be directed to the seller. THANK YOU!

Will update when applicable

2014 Grade Sorrel Mare – “Thelma”

Thelma is a well-built, 15.1 hand sorrel mare with a solid foundation and a good mind. Born in 2014, she’s seasoned and sound, with the kind of training and exposure that makes her a dependable partner for both work and play. Thelma comes out of a prison program and is well broke, respectful on the ground, and responsive under saddle. She’s confident in new environments, and nothing much fazes her. Desensitized to ropes, cattle, dogs, traffic—you name it—she’s seen it and handled it with a level head.

She’s currently running barrels and consistently places in the 2D/3D at local jackpots. She’s quick and knows her job, perfect for someone looking to step up or just enjoy the sport without starting from scratch. She’s also been roped off of.

She trailers well, stands for the farrier, ties, bathes, and gets along with other horses in the pasture.

Located in Azle. Vet checks welcome. Serious inquiries only, please.

Experienced rider only
